William O' Connor Winner Players Championship 13

Number 13 not unlucky for Limerick's William O' Connor as he won The PDC Players championship on Tuesday 30th April just gone.

William was due the luck of the Irish lately as a lot of his recent losses have been really narrow, but luck didn't come into this one as he just had fantastic display after fantastic display; hard work and determination clinched him his first PDC title.

I caught up with the man himself earlier today and this is what the proud Irishman had to say :

JDC Ireland : How does it feel to have won your first PDC title?

Willie : " Feels a bit surreal at the minute but i'm very happy to have done what i set out to do at the beginning of the year already.

JDC Ireland : How much did you enjoy the PDC Players championship experience?

Willie : "Really enjoyed the whole experience and hopefully ill get to experience that all over again soon"

JDC Ireland : How does it feel to represent Ireland at such a high level in darts?

Willie : "Its a huge honor for me to represent my country at such a high level and ill always give it my all. Albeit sometimes its not good enough haha"

JDC Ireland : What did you make of the standard at the players championship, as there are many top level players on the PDC Tour?

Willie : "Its incredible at the moment with the standard and i am truly delighted to have won one of these events with the standard that's there"

JDC Ireland : How would you describe your performances over the 2 days?

Willie : "I think i played solid enough the day i won but i was a bit distracted the day after which i suppose is normal and a learning curve for me"

JDC Ireland : How would you describe the upcoming Junior Darts players emerging out of Ireland? Both north and south of the border?

Willie : "The young players of Ireland are in a class of their own and i am sure they will be leading the way of Irish darts over the coming years"

JDC Ireland : What are your goals for 2019 as a player?

Willie : "It was to win a players champ and qualify for the world championships. So that's part 1 complete now need to qualify for the world champs"

JDC Ireland : Any advice you would give to any Junior players out there?

Willie : "Got to practice... be dedicated and believe in yourself"

I would personally like to thank Willie for taking the time out for this chat and to wish him the very best of luck for the rest of 2019; I have extended an invitation to Willie to pop into JDC Ireland at our Headquarters in Tallaght Dublin in the near future to see firsthand what the future of darts in Ireland have to offer; Look forward to seeing you champ.
